'30s

Lloyd R. Hunsaker '34, retired USU Extension specialist, former member of the Alumni Council and former president of the Logan Temple for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, celebrated his 100th birthday Sept. 30th. He resides in Logan.

'50s

David H. Barwick '51 and Charles A. Everson '51 were each awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award for 2008 by the faculty of the Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning. The two alumni have been classmates and friends for 61 years.
Gaylen Hansen '53 exhibited three decades worth of paintings at the Salt Lake Art Center. He used to teach at Washington State University.
Norman T. Erekson '55, president of the Mormon Battalion Association, participated in the re-creation of the Battalion's 2000-mile march from Iowa to San Diego.
Glenn J. Mecham '57 has retired after 47 years of professional and public service, most recently as Northern Utah Liaison for U.S. Senator Bob Bennett. He is former chair of the USU Institutional Council (Board of Trustees), the USU Research Foundation and Space Dynamics Laboratory and is a charter member of the USU Innovation Campus Hall of Fame. He has also received a Distinguished Service Award from USU.
Reese M. Almond '59 creates beautiful wood carvings of Utah fish worth thousands of dollars; he uses his background in taxidermy and fishing to make shapes and colors realistic.

'60s

Wayne Barlow '60, founder of Wescor and renowned medical inventor, helped shape FDA legislation and agency policy. He has received the ýProfessional Achievement Awardý from the USU Alumni Association and ýOutstanding Alumnus Awardý from USU's department of electrical and computer engineering.
Merlin J. Olsen '62 '71MS, former Utah State All-America lineman, was one of 75 players named to the 75th anniversary All-Sun Bowl Team.
Joseph A. Watts '64, executive director of the Utah Golf Association since 1990, retired.
Carolyn Bodrero '67 has retired from BD Medical Systems in Sandy, Utah, after 28 years of service.
Karl Worthington '67MS, serves as Utah Valley University associate vice president of academic affairs as well as interim vice president of academic affairs.

'70s

Lucille Watkins '70 hosts the interactive ýArt on the Lawný annual event in North Logan.
Mark Bingham '72 '75MS has published a color-illustrated childrens' book, Woolie, which expounds on the nursery rhyme Mary Had a Little Lamb.
Burke A. Christensen '72 is the Robert B. Morgan Professor of Insurance at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky.
Annette Randall Haws '72 has published her first novel, Waiting for the Light to Change. She is a former Logan High School English teacher and debate coach.
Dr. Fred Bryant '74 was honored as a Northside Independent School District ýPillar of Characterý at a gala in San Antonio, Texas. Bryant is an expert on wildlife research, endangered species, range management, and environmental issues and has worked all over the world, including in Peru, Bolivia, Morocco and Australia.
Karl A. Dawson '74, director of worldwide research at Alltech, was named a 2008 Fellow of the American Society of Animal Science in the industry category. The award recognizes distinguished service to the animal science and livestock.
Douglas Hancey '74 chaired the Independence Day Parade Committee in Centerville, Utah.
Douglas Johnson '74MS '76PhD, plant physiologist in USU's College of Natural Resources, co-authored Forage Plants in Mongolia.
Richard Sutton '74MA, horticulture professor at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, received a Senior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award from his university.
Curtis W. Youngman '74BS, '77MS has been selected to serve a three-year term on the International DECA/Delta Epsilon Chi Board of Directors.ý He currently serves as the State Advisor of Utah Delta Epsilon Chi and has been professor of marketing at Salt Lake Community College for 30 years.
Earl Heninger '75, former principal of Weber High and stroke and kidney transplant survivor, is walking again; he received the Mayor's Inspirational Citizen's Award in North Ogden.
Rodney B. Miller '75 is the author of Massacre at Bear River: First, Worst, Forgotten, about the forgotten slaughter of several hundred Shoshone Indians in 1863.
Craig J. Simper '75, USU's long-time general counsel, served as assistant director of Iraq's Law and Order Task Force; he received the Bronze Star for his work there.
Leland G. Foster '76PhD was appointed interim executive director of the Synthetic Biomanufacturing Center. Funded by USTAR, USU researchers are trying to cause single-cell organisms to produce plastics, medicine and fuel, making these products less expensive and more environmentally friendly.
Dennis Nelson '76 was named executive director of academic program development for Regional Campuses and Distance Education at USU.
Teresa L. Theurer '76Att was appointed to the Utah State Board of Regents by Governor Jon Huntsman.
Paul Robert Willie '76 was elected to Wells Fargo's community banking board of northern Utah. He served as partner for Wasatch Property Management and is the development partner for the Riverwoods Conference Center and Marriott Hotel in Logan.
Gerald L. Blight '77 '78MS has joined the CPI Card Group as director of customer relations and services.
Jeffrey White '77 '79MS is the light and power director for the City of Logan, UT.
Keith Gilbertson, Jr. '78Att is the wide receivers' coach for the Seattle Seahawks.
Ronald W. Jibson '78 has been named president and CEO of Questar Corp. He replaces Alan K. Allred '74 who retired from the position. Questar Gas is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Questar Corp., a natural gas-focused energy company.
Fred D. Provenza '78MS '82PhD received the D. Wynne Thorne Career Research Award, the most prestigious research accolade given by USU.
Marianne Sorensen '78, an attorney in St. George, UT, was voted one of the ý30 Women to Watchý by Utah Business Magazine.
Rick Bass '79, author of several previous books, wrote Why I Came West, a memoir about his efforts to preserve Montana's Yaak Valley.
Eric Edwards '79 was appointed to the board of directors of Sunridge Gold Corp. He serves as Chairman of the Audit Committee, President and CEO of Ventura Gold Corp and CFO and a Vice President of International Minerals Corporation.
Rose Miller '79 retired from the State Division of Child and Family Services and published Daddy Hold Me, I'm Scared, based on her 30 years of working with troubled teenagers.

'80s

John Douglas Bullough '80, LICSW, recently opened a full-time psychotherapy practice in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Kent DeHart '80 was hired as the SBA manager for Far West Bank.
Lee Gabrielson '80, co-founder and president of True North Management, is now a Udelhoven Oilfield System Services project manager.
Tracy Rich-Greiner '81 '82 was inducted as a new officer of the Junior League of Ogden; she was an active league member for 18 years, serves on the board of the Ogden Symphony Ballet Association and is an advisor for its youth symphony guild.
Alan R. Johnson '81Att earned the prestigious Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor professional designation.

Rick Stock '81 is executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Salt Lake City structural engineering consulting firm, Dunn Associates.
Ferron Holt '82MEd, who teaches 5th grade, Spanish and music, and coordinates fine arts programs for the Washington County School District, received a Governor's Leadership in the Arts Award from the Utah Arts Council.
Kerry Lynn P. Collett '83 heads Designer Glass Works' warm glass section and teaches classes in warm glass artistry.
Greg Burton '84 '87MC was selected for a one-year term as the Academic Accounting Fellow by the Securities and Exchange Commission's Division of Corporation Finance.
Kevin Forsgren '84, math teacher and assistant principal at White Pine Middle School in Richmond, also farms 150 acres of crops.
Mike King '85PhD is interim president of the College of Eastern Utah in Price.
Bradford R. Rich '85, executive Vice President and CFO of SkyWest Inc., was a runner-up for Utah Business Magazine's CFO of the year.
Scott Y. Doxey '86 has been appointed chief operations and systems officer at Southern Virginia University.
Dixie Madsen '86 of Intermountain Donor Services is spokesperson for Unicycling For Organs, whose performances increase awareness of organ donation, specifically live kidney donation.
Mitchell W. Brown '87 was appointed by Governor Otter of Idaho to be a Sixth District Court Judge.
Darrin Casper '87, of the Salt Lake County mayor's operations office, was a runner-up for Utah Business Magazine's CFO of the year.
Bruce Decker '87, who teaches welding at Clearfield High School, received a Huntsman Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Kirk Gifford '87 is associate dean of the College of Business and Communications at BYU-Idaho.
Tom Davidson '88Att is the golf director at Raven Golf Club in Couer d'Alene, ID.
Alan Raymond '88 has been promoted to vice president of SCO, a software company based in Lindon, UT.
Rhonda Shaffer '88 was named Teacher of the Year at Woodruff Elementary in Brigham City, UT.ý She teaches 2nd grade.
John Worley '88, former assistant administrator at Logan Regional Hospital, is CEO of the Cache Valley Specialty Hospital.
Dejia Zhang '88PhD is director of technical services at Agel Enterprises in Salt Lake City.
Leon F Nelson '89 has been promoted to operations manager at Big-D Construction in Lindon, Utah.

Erick Thompson '91, a U.S. Forest Service pilot supervisor for a crew of smokejumpers based in Ogden, was named 2007 Employer of the Year by the Hill Air Force Base's 419th Fighter Wing.
Kevin White '91 is the athletics director at Snow College in southern Utah.
Thomas Carter '92 is vice president for contracts management at CIBER, Inc., with headquarters in Colorado, London and Heidelberg, Germany.
Darin Nerdin '92, West Valley City park forester, was named Utah State Arborist of the Year by the Utah Community Forestry Council.
Keith Sauter '92MS is leader of the Salt Lake County Sheriff's office search and rescue team.
Troy Douglas Delair '93 won the 2008 Farm Bureau Life Super All American Award for his life insurance production; it is his 13th time receiving the award.
Taylor Duersch '93 has been named Vice President, Global Decision Sciences at Carlson Marketing in Minneapolis.
Reba Jo Teran '93 '96MS, Eastern Shoshone language coordinator, has been working with three tribal elders on the reservation to compile the most comprehensive phonetic dictionary and audio record of the language yet assembled. She has also been creating and producing a basic multimedia Shoshone language course for tribal members and schools.
Alan W. Bell '95 was selected as a leading United States lawyer by an independent legal research firm: Chambers and Partners.
Brad Mortensen '95 is vice president for university advancement at Weber State in Ogden, UT. He oversees the university's development, communications, alumni relations and government relations departments.
Jared R. Farmer '96, assistant professor of history at the State University of New York, wrote On Zion's Mount: Mormons, Indians and the American Landscape.
Valedictorian Emily Collings Jorgenson '98 earned a master's in curriculum and instruction from Weber State University and is working as a special education teacher at Heber Valley Elementary.
Shelly Marie Nielsen '98 was awarded classified Employee of the Year for Ellis Elementary by the Logan Schools Foundation.
Barbara Vineyard '98 is one of the creators of the popular bi-monthly Wasatch Woman; because of its growth it has been purchased for publication by MediaOne.
Tyler Young '99 is a senior interior designer with Naylor Wentworth Lund Architects in Salt Lake City.

'00s

Sara Collings Hansen '00 earned a master's in educational psychology from the University of Utah. She worked for four years as a school counselor in Utah and Colorado and currently lives in New York.
Russ Dixon '02 Att of the band Colors, has been commissioned to write songs for USU. He owns recording and photography studios; several of his photos have been used by The Foundation for a Better Life on billboards in Times Square and around the world.
Carol Cabanillas '03 won the Salt Lake City marathon and qualified to compete in the U.S. Olympics trials. She competed for the Aggies when she was a student.
Brandon Jensen '03 of Logan, UT, beat 1,400 other Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance agents to win theý Property/Casualty Agent of the Year award.
Stefanie Collings Gillespie '04 earned a master's in educational psychology from the University of Utah and worked as a high school counselor for two years before moving to California.
Katie E. Falco '05 is the new women's basketball assistant coach at South Dakota State University.
Ryan C. Hoffmann '05, along with other USU physicists, conducted research for NASA testing four types of ceramic to examine their responses to the conditions of space.
Michele Sauk '05 has been promoted to vice president and business development officer at the U.S. Bank SBA Division in Murray, UT.
Justin Traveller '05Att has opened Chiro Active, a chiropractic practice in Logan, UT.
Sara Lundberg '06 '07 is the director of the Brigham City Museum-Gallery.
Jennifer Willmore '06MS worked with Project Amigo Scholars in Mexico to help Mexican children attend school, when they may otherwise drop out, through the payment of fees and purchase of uniforms.
Kenny Caldwell '07 is a public relations associate with Snapp Conner PR in Draper, UT.
Charity Weston '07, former Utah State soccer player, was recently named Women's Premier Soccer League player of the week for the Pacific Conference.
Josh P. Wilde '08 was hired by Envision Engineering; he previously spent time as a team leader in China with Engineers Without Borders as well as overseeing the design and implementation of a solar lighting system for a village in Peru.
Nicholas J. Watts '07 of Logan was named director of operations soon after starting his internship under Senator Edward Kennedy in Washington D.C.
