ALUMNI ASSOCIATION WELCOMES NEW MEMBERS TO

ITS HALL OF HONOR

Meet the 2008 inductees to the Alumni Association's Hall of Honor. These alumni and friends of Utah State University are being recognized for their continual support and service to USU and to its Alumni Association.


Lee and Karen Lantz

Lee and Karen Lantz both know what it means to be an Aggie. Deeply involved while on campus, Lee was a member of Army ROTC and lettered in football. Karen danced and cheered on the sidelines as an Aggiette.


Karen earned a bachelor's degree in English in 1970 and, the following year, Lee earned his bachelor's in marketing. Lee is currently the president of A.R. Lantz Company, Inc., a seafood importer, and Karen is a high school English teacher. Both are members of the Old Main Society and Lifetime Sustaining members of the Alumni Association.


Jack and Charlotte Nixon

Jack and Charlotte Nixon have been supporting Utah State for over 30 years. They have been generously involved in many projects on campus, including the new Performance Hall.


Jack earned a master's of business administration in 1970 and, together with Charlotte, has owned Nixon and Nixon Inc., a Century 21 affiliated real estate business, since 1965.


In 1986, Jack received the Professional Achievement Award from the College of Business and Charlotte received an Honorary Alumnus Award in 2004.


Jack and Charlotte are members of the Big Blue Touchdown Club, Old Main Society and are Lifetime Sustaining members of the Alumni Association.


Max and Karen Peterson

While working as the director of libraries at Utah State University from 1967 to 2000, Max Peterson was recognized as the Utah Librarian of the Year. During the same time, his wife, Karen, worked in Admissions, Nursing and at the Huntsman School of Business.


Between Max and Karen and their three children, the Peterson family has earned seven degrees from USU. Max earned a bachelor's degree in history and a master's degree in political science in 1960. He went on to earn a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona. Karen earned a bachelor's degree in American Studies in 1979 and a master's degree in English in 1988. All three of their children have also graduated from USU.


Both Max and Karen serve as board members with the Friends of USU Library and are also Old Main Society members. They have served as Alumni Chapter Board members and are Lifetime Sustaining members of the Alumni Association.


Carlos and Annette Smith

While attending Utah State, Carlos and Annette Smith were very actively involved in its many organizations and clubs. Carlos was an ASUSU officer and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Annette was vice president for the Association of Women Students and a member of Alpha Chi Omega and Phi Kappa Phi. In 1957, Carlos graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration and Annette graduated in 1958 in elementary education. In 1995, Annette also earned a master's in education from USU.


Carlos was president of the USU Alumni Association and owned and operated an RCA franchise for 25 years. He also served as the executive director of the Alumni Relations Department for 12 years. Annette was a school teacher for the Granite School District.


The Smiths are members of the Big Blue Club, Old Main Society and Lifetime Sustaining members of the Alumni Association. All four of their children graduated from Utah State.
